Twenty-Two

“Hi, good morning, I mean. How was—”

Mueller’s incessant chirping stops when I slam the stack of paperwork in my hand on her desk. The harpy started shrieking the second I walked in, never missing a beat; even when every other employee scurried in the face of my very apparent mood.

“Shut the fuck up, Mueller.”

The face she makes when the force of my words hits her is pure shock, and not enough fear. It’s taking every ounce of self-control I possess not to grab her by the back of the head and smash her face on the table in front of her until there’s not enough Mueller left to continue.

That would raise the spiral count. Twice that you would have not only broken your precious serial killer routine, but lost your shit publicly. He taught you better than that.

“Kage, I don’t kn—”

“Shut your poisonous mouth.”

I turn each word into a sentence, dropping my voice so only she can hear. Sable was right, there was no signature. She received a return text, one line: You have the wrong number. No X's, no O's.

This bitch is lucky to be breathing.

“You’re going to listen because of what’s in this.”

Her eyes flick to the standard-looking file that my palm is still shoving far too hard into the aluminum desk.

“You seem to lack an understanding, so I’m going to make this crystal clear. Nothing about you is attractive to me. You’re the epitome of everything I’m repulsed by. I wouldn’t fuck you with someone else’s dick. I DO NOT want you.”

Her mouth flaps like a trout until fury takes over.

“I don’t believe you. This is your wife talking. She checked your phone?”

“This is me, Mueller. A man that would rather cut his dick off than see it contact you. Open the file.”

The first pages are her texts, printed out with exact explanations of why each part is inappropriate. Along with a list of reasons I find her repulsive. It’s extensive. A copy is going to Sable along with the video I’m currently filming from the camera in my collar.

Delivering her peace of mind on a silver platter?

It’s a black thumb drive.

Mueller flips to the next page, and the color rage and embarrassment had lent her face, drains.

“Everything you’ve ever done, I’ve got. Every lie and sabotage you’ve crafted for all the people in your life. You work at a cyber security company, you should have had better protection. It took me one hour to pull together enough evidence to turn everyone in your life against you. Even your own mother.”

She sputters a few words before falling silent again.

“I have the video of you fucking her husband. Not the version you sent him; the full one. Where you plant the camera, and tell him about your stepdad fantasy; the rough one.”

“I-”

“Still not your turn to speak, Mueller. I don’t care that you blackmailed your stepdad into an inheritance and a weekly stipend. You’re wealthy, congratulations. Carson probably won’t see it that way. If I send your rich stepfather the video I possess, you’d do hard time.
